Semliki National Park

Bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo, Semuliki National Park offers a distinct experience with its lowland tropical rainforest, hot springs, and rare wildlife. The Sempaya Hot Springs are the park’s standout feature—one is female (Nyansimbi) and the other male (Bintente), both of which gush boiling water with spiritual significance to the local Bamaga people.

Wildlife in Semuliki includes forest elephants, buffaloes, and unique bird species like the Shoebill and African Piculet. The park is also home to some pygmy communities who offer cultural tours, giving insight into one of Africa’s oldest indigenous lifestyles.

Semuliki is ideal for travelers looking to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations, and it complements other nearby parks with its unique ecology and cultural offerings.
