The Tooro Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, has launched a significant cultural preservation initiative – The Rehabilitation of the Royal Tombs at Karambi. These sacred grounds, which serve as the final resting place for past Tooro kings and royals, hold immense historical and spiritual significance to the Batooro people.
The project aims to restore and preserve the structural integrity and cultural heritage of the tombs, many of which have weathered over time. By improving the site’s accessibility, infrastructure, and historical displays, the Kingdom seeks to honor its royal ancestors and provide future generations with a space to reflect, learn, and connect with Tooro’s proud legacy.
This effort also supports cultural tourism and education, as the tombs attract both local and international visitors. Plans include landscaping, roofing, fencing, documentation of royal regalia, and the establishment of a heritage interpretation center.
The Kingdom invites all well-wishers, historians, and cultural enthusiasts to support this noble cause of preserving our heritage and strengthening our identity.
