Rwenzori Mountains – The Glacial Mountains of the Moon

Towering along Uganda’s western border, the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon,” offer one of Africa’s most challenging and rewarding trekking experiences. The park includes Margherita Peak (5,109m), Africa’s third-highest summit, capped with glacial ice and snow.

The Rwenzoris are UNESCO World Heritage-listed due to their biodiversity and stunning alpine scenery. Trekkers pass through different vegetation zones ranging from montane forest to heath and moorland, each with its unique flora and fauna.

The trails are demanding, often muddy, and weather can be unpredictable, but the reward is immense for nature lovers and mountaineers. Even shorter treks from the base camps offer mesmerizing views of waterfalls, bamboo forests, and rare plant species.
