His Majesty was truly the King of our generation. As young Ugandans who grew up during his reign, we admired his humility, grace, and dedication to service. My deepest condolences to the Batooro people, the late king Mother and the Sister, and the royal family on the tragic passing of King Oyo. May his soul rest in peace. Having lived in Uganda for ten years before moving to New York, I remember King Oyo as a remarkably quiet, peaceful, and discreet young leader. As a Bahunde prince who sought asylum in Uganda, I chose a low profile during that challenging chapter, though it was always my intention to meet him. Kingdoms navigate natural tides; power inevitably attracts friends and enemies, only the monarch could know better. I firmly advise the Babiito clan to strictly honor the King’s legacy and will. Do not establish dangerous precedents by attempting to elect a king; doing so invites unbearable chaos now and forwards. Customs, traditions, and cultures may be distinct wording but must be strictly upheld. Remain united and honorable during this time. King Oyo is not gone; he merely sleeps. Laira T. You grew up right before our eyes, always carrying yourself with dignity and respect. It is heartbreaking that your life came to an end at such a young age, when you still had so much ahead of you and so much more to accomplish. I pray that the Lord receives you with open arms and gives your mother and sister strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time. My mom is a mutooro and her family raised me. I grew up hearing three languages at home: Luganda, English, and Lutooro. I remember learning about the late Oyo in primary school. Truthfully, I was never really invested in the kingdom's affairs, but I had a fondness for it. The news of Oyo's death was and still is painful. His youth cut short is what hurts the most! Rest well, forever young king. Maama Oyo, Queen Best, we mourn with you! I hope you find strength. I can't imagine how heartbreaking it is. But learning in the last couple of weeks that your son was Godfearing gives me hope that he will meet our maker...that he is in a better place, where you will meet him again.
