The Mukama of Tooro has not died; he has gone on a journey. In the tradition of the kingdoms and chiefdoms of the Great Lakes region, from the Mountain of Rain and Mist to the Bay of Lions, one does not say that the King is dead. One says that he has departed on a journey, or that the ancestors have entrusted him with another, greater kingdom. Today, the people of Tooro accompany their Mukama on this final journey. The one who carried the crown among the living now joins those who came before him, whose memory continues to watch over the kingdom. May the ancestors receive him with honour. May his memory endure among his people. And may the kingdom he leaves behind remain strong. The King has gone on a journey. The Kingdom remains.
