Fort Portal City
Elevated to a Tourism City from 2020, Fort Portal is Tooro’s main city. It lies on the foothills of the Royal Palace. It is named after Sir Gerald Portal: a British diplomat and Consul General for the British East Africa and British Special Commissioner to Uganda. Gerald was instrumental in the establishment of Uganda as a British Protectorate. Fort Portal is the most beautiful and cleanest city in Uganda. It is situated amid the rolling hills of Tooro and offers amazing views of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains. It is surrounded by tea farms, banana plantations and is the region with most crater lakes in the world.
